11 Months
This month came with a lot of changes! Dax pushes himself from his belly, back to sitting and has started pulling up on things. Dax started crawling forward which started as army crawling with his toes and one arm and is now full-fledged traditional crawling. He got his first tooth this month, and still just has the one. He had his first haircut. He now says or attempts to say several words, including saying the ever-so-important "Mama" and reaching for me (he's been saying Da for his Dad for months, but who was really keeping track of that). He also has added several sign language words which helps us understand what he wants to eat or sees or understands. It is so fun having Dax tell us what is on his mind! Also on his mind, this month Dax has started to have a lot more opinions; about naps, bedtimes, what foods he wants to eat, where he wants to sit, what he wants to play with, and more. Dax has learned (but does not appreciate or respect) the word "no" as mobility has allowed him to check out outlets, presents under the Christmas tree and a baby Jesus that he knocks out of his manager almost hourly. Dax also likes to do a lot of things himself; he likes to feed himself -he'll even put his spoon in his own mouth (or sometimes tries to put his spoon in his parent's mouth), will brush his hair, likes to brush his tooth and knows to take out his pacifier and throw it back in his bed after his naps are done (a habit which backfires when he shouldn't be done with his naps and he chucks his pacifier out of the crib while he is still in it).
He still is such a joy to be with, we are so grateful we have been blessed to be his parents. We can't believe his first year is drawing to a close, but are looking forward to celebrating a first Christmas with him in the coming weeks. This year has been filled with more joy than we could have imagined one little guy could bring. We love this kid!

Comin' to Town
You better WATCH OUT
You better NOT CRY
You better NOT POUT, I'm telling you why.
SANTA CLAUS is comin' to town!
He sees you when your SLEEPING
He knows when your AWAKE
He knows if you've been BAD
Study Buddy
Curtis has been taking finals this week. While studying at home I have to continually separate him and Dax. I'll turn my back for a second and find that Dax has crawled over to Curtis and said Da Da and Curtis picks him right on up.
I don't know how much studying Curtis gets done while Dax is eating his pencils or slamming on his calculator- but those two sure do love each other!

...the stockings were hung
This year I quilted stockings for our now family of THREE. With a lot of help from my mom, it was a fun little first and last quilting project (minus one incident with a rotary cutter through my finger). I thought that I would forever hate every little mistake on each stocking, but hung by the fireplace and sitting across the room with some Hot Chocolate, I don't notice a thing. I'm so pleased with how they turned out and can I say that THREE stockings hung by the fireplace just warms my heart!
O' Christmas Tree
It is our family tradition to have a real tree in our home for every Christmas. Curtis is not demanding about much, but real Christmas trees he is. For the past several years we have picked out the biggest and best tree possible and as a result have had to trim the tree to even fit in our little door. This year we took a more humble approach.
Curtis and I spent a Friday Night date decorating the tree, drinking Eggnog, wrapping presents for beneath the tree and watching Christmas movies.
A good friend makes Christmas Ornaments and made this to remember Dax's First Christmas.
Dax, Mama and tree.
I wish I could just put a bow on Dax and keep him this size forever, he's so cute!

Shepherd Boy
At our Ward's Christmas party, kids could dress up like Shepherds or Wiseman and pose by a Nativity. Dax was the cutest little Shepherd Boy!
Papa dressed up like a Shepherd, too!
Dax with Dad, Aunt Melissa & Cousin Avery, Uncle Morgan & Cousin Wyatt... all acting to cool to dress up.
Swim Lessons
Dax graduated from his first round of Swim Lessons! He took a Parent/Child swim class for 6-36 Month olds. He was the youngest in his class and was by far the most eager swimmer of the group. He loves the water, he goes crazy for it. He loved to kick, splash and jump into the pool. Most lessons included working on getting the babies comfortable with a certain element of swimming but mostly playing with toys and singing songs. Curtis and I took turns swimming with Dax or both got in the pool with him.
Because we are raising a son in a partici-prize generation- he got this little certificate. (And secretly we were so excited about it!)

Green Scarfs
Every first Saturday in December the Asay women combine forces for Christmas Shopping- all wearing our matching Green Scarfs. This year just two of us were missing. We shop, eat, chat and shop some more- it's a favorite Asay tradition!
