1st Day of Nursery

Today was Dax's 1st day of Nursery!
For weeks we have been talking about it and for the past few Sundays he has stood outside the Nursery door and knocked and said "Hellow?" because he could hear the kids playing inside. Today was his day. We walked in and his teacher said "This must be Dax!". I asked Dax to say 'hi' and he stuck out his chest, marched right in and declared "HI! I Dax!".
He happily sat right down for his snack and we left without him even pouting. We waited around in the hall and kept peaking through the windows to see him happily making friends. Curtis and I walked back to Sunday School feeling confused on what to do without a kid. I'll admit that I had tears as we sat down to class alone, I can't believe Dax is getting big and doesn't need me every minute. Curtis laughed at me crying, but he jumped everytime someone came into Sunday School- looking to see if they were bringing us back Dax.
All the kids in Dax's Nursery class are turning 3 this year, and his is the younger Nursery class. He looked so young and short in there. At the beginning of the third hour the kids in his class were getting to leave for potty breaks, Dax started asking for his Mama and crying as he saw people were getting to leave. So I got invited to come play in Nursery the 3rd hour. Dax didn't need me to play with him or be close to him- just wanted to make sure that I was in the same room.
After Nursery was done, Dax went running to his Dad holding up his coloring page, looking so proud. I don't know what was more touching, Dax showing off his artwork or Curtis dropping his things and throwing his arms open for the little boy he missed all church.
It was a great first Nursery, we are so proud of Dax and the kind, gentle, friendly little boy he is.

  1. So Handsome, and he looks so grown up! I am feeling sad too, he has been my RS buddy for the past 18 months!
