Sunday Love

Daddy LOVE.
(Dax does a double point and kicks his legs when he sees his Dad... no question who he wants to pick him up!)

Cousin LOVE.
(Dax and Jaylee, 5 Months)

Weekend LOVE.
(I have been saving this sweater for Dax to wear for almost a year. It has a deer on it and I thought it would be a celebration after Opening Day hunting. No such luck with the hunting- but he sure looked cute!)

 Puppy LOVE.
(Dax meets Melanie's new puppy, Oscar)

Worth it

At the end of hard days, He is so worth it.

Mo-vember

November 1st Curtis came home from work and said that several of his buddies from school convinced him into participating in "No Shave November". I guess it is a nation-wide dumb idea to not shave for a month, and get supporters to donate to Cancer Research in exchange. He and his friends would all not shave their mustaches. I'm all about raising money for a good cause, but this is just rude. I convinced Curtis to shave early since our Anniversary is the24th, he agreed. However, Thursday and Friday he has interviews scheduled and he consented that showing up looking like this would not be putting his best 'face' forward. So tonight was his last mustache appearance (ever I hope).
Congratulations to Curtis on 10 days of a mustache.
And Congratulations to me because tomorrow I get to kiss my husband again, without grimacing!

Tricks and Talents at Nine Months

Dax is almost through his Ninth Month and has learned lots of new tricks! This is his first time pulling himself to standing without holding on to anyone.

Some TRICKS AND TALENTS at Nine Months:
  • Dax uses sign language to say; milk and all done/finished (on occasion he has signed please, more and dog).
  • Dax says "Da" and points for Ducks and Dogs.
  • And says "Ba" for Balls.
  • He says "Uh-oh" (usually sounds like Ah-Ah-Uh) when he drops something.
  • He points to things he wants and shakes his head no (and squeals) for things he doesn't want.
  • He turns pages on books and will sit and look at books for a while.
  • When prompted he can clap and wave bye-bye.
  • Dax loves to smack his lips and sometimes he'll put them to good use and give Mom kisses.
  • He can give High-Fives.
  • He'll raise his hands above his head for "Touchdown" or to show his Mama he is "so big" when she asks "How big is Dax?".
  • He loves to throw.
  • Dax loves to mimic breathing, especially over exaggerated Huffs.
  • He will jump off (more like lean off) any surface I've sat him on, if I count to three really dramatic. He looks so big jumping (leaning quickly) into the pool at swim lessons.
  • He's great at opening drawers and emptying their contents.
  • He loves to kick and splash in the tub or the pool and recently is obsessed with eating the bubbles out of his bath and  walking the line of bubble eating or sucking up a mouth full of water.
  • He's a computer genius, when he's close enough to whack a keyboard he brings up shortcuts and prompts we've never seen before.
  • He loves to make people laugh and doesn't like it when he can see people that aren't look at him!
We love him more than ever and are so proud of how big  and talented he is getting. We can't wait to see what he learns to do everyday!

Lil' Dude

Our favorite little Dude!
Thanks Uncle Mo & Aunt Lissa for my 'Dude' hat!

A Bad Week

Some weeks are harder than others. This week one day at lunch I decided I would try feeding Dax eggs (mind you,at his last Dr's visit I was told I could try scrambled eggs- but just the egg whites to start out with- I wasn't just making this up!). So I scrambled one egg white and he had probably four bites of them, along with his other lunch items. A little over an hour later we were all on our way to the ER. Dax had hives from head to toe. His ears, eyes and cheeks were swollen/red/hot. He had snot just dripping from his nose and was sneezing profusely. Most alarming is that he was wheezing really heavily. From his previous scary experience with wheezing we have an inhaler on hand at home (which we are so grateful for!). Once at the ER he was already rebounding and everything checked out good. Just no more eggs until future notice.
The following day Dax had a follow-up visit with his Pediatrician. Instead of going home after I thought  I would nap Dax at my parent's and work on a sewing project. So I put him down to sleep on Nana and Papa's bed- we had a little Chocolate Mystery. I kept him awake for quite a while to make sure he didn't have any allergic side effects to the Chocolate. When all was well, I put him in a pack and play and headed into my parent's laundry room to cut some fabric.
Not paying attention, with the rotary cutter I cut my finger in half (hot dog ways). I cut it from the tip through the nail on one side all the way through the finger and out the other side for almost the whole length of the nail. It butterflied out and bled like a crazy... Luckily I knew my Mom was on her way home soon and found a black sock with in reach to wrap my finger tightly with. Curtis was teaching at the time and teaches in the basement, out of cell phone service. My Dad came home to help assess the damage and help me clean and dress the wound. I decided to not go to the Doctor and have received some heat for it, a friend of ours who is a Plastic Surgeon looked at his several days later and said it should have had stitches but is healing well. I heard "it's healing well".
I wanted to take a cool picture of my quilting-battle wound. However, I asked Curtis to take the picture and after unwrapping layers of bloody gauze and my finger butterflying out and bleeding in front of him he was in no condition to take a picture, or stand for that matter. So instead I got a good picture of him pale white and laying on the floor with his feet above his head.
And just because Bad things happen in threes. Our radiator went out in my car on Saturday. Smoke came spewing out from under the hood, radiator fluid ran all over and we were stranded in the Hobby Lobby parking lot until Curt's parents came to our rescue.
Some weeks suck.
Sunday the lesson I had been assigned to teach the Young Women was on Optimism. Isn't it so interesting that the teacher often needs the lesson more than the students? In preparing the lesson I came across the thought "The difference between stumbling blocks and stepping stones is how you use them"
"We must be more concerned with what we do with what happens to us than what happens to us" Marvin J. Ashton.
We really do have so much to be grateful for, even after weeks like this.

The Case of the Chocolate Thief

I was at my Mom's working on a sewing project and laid Dax down for a nap on my Mom and Dad's bed. He was just about asleep when I laid him down and checked on him a couple minutes later and I found this scene..

EXHIBIT A:
A box of Chocolate Covered Macadamia nuts from my parent's recent trip to Hawaii. It was sitting on the cedar chest, opposite of where I laid Dax and was closed when I left, but now was open and had a pacifier laid in it.

 EXHIBIT B:
A comforter now smeared with chocolate and one half-sucked chocolate stuck on the bed.

EXHIBIT C:
 Caught, Chocolate-handed.

GUILTY!

I am grateful that he didn't fall off the bed, choke on the nuts and that he isn't allergic to chocolate! My sweet-baby is turning into a little naughty thief!
